Good morning, Fitzroy

This newfound energy is really taking me by surprise. It’s inconsistent, so I can’t say I feel anything like 100%. But the good days are addictive, and on some of the bad days - well, I feel like crap but I still have energy. The only times I can think of when I felt similarly would be when I’ve had a bad cold and taken pseudoephedrine, and then gone on a house-cleaning bender. It’s like you know you’re not your best but something propels you to just keep going.

I think it’s a lot easier to tolerate the crappy symptoms because I know they’re for the greater good. I feel tolerably crappy at regular intervals because the antibiotics are killing the evil germs, and it’s the effect of masses of germs dying that makes me feel bad. Unlike the flu or a cold, though, I usually feel fine the next day. So it’s not one of those, “Oh no, I can’t miss work, but I’m bedridden for more than a week, blecch,” kinds of things. It’s more like, “Ha ha, see ya later, germs. OR NOT! Mwah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Ow, my throat. Now what was I doing again?”

Things I have accomplished in the past week (miraculously):

* saw a show on a school night (Little Red at the Northcote Social Club, who were awesome. They’re playing one more show tomorrow night for only $10, so go see them before they get big and famous and hit puberty and don’t have time to tour Melbourne.) Didn’t get to bed until after 1am and was OK for work the next day.

* ironed EVERYTHING in my ironing basket. This has never happened, ever, in the history of Honey. There were things in that basket that I probably placed there a year ago. Or earlier. The basket is now empty.

* cooked a decent dinner nearly every night. No cheating with baked beans on toast or anything like that. No restaurant or cafe food either.

* finished a batch of map envelopes and listed them in my etsy shop, for the first time in nearly a year.

* mended and altered some more clothes.

* did three seven loads of laundry and made my bed (which usually exhausts me because my mattress is heavy and awkwardly wedged into my bedframe, so you have to lift each corner and side in order to tuck the sheets under).

* turned a jar full of bottlecaps into fridge magnets while I watched the Oscars, a project that has been sitting on the backburner for a few years now. They look fabulous.

* blogged.

It’s kind of spooky, isn’t it?

I am now wondering if I shouldn’t start making a list of all the backburner projects in my life - craft-related, repairs, organisation stuff, etc. Because — insert Twilight Zone music here — I might run out of obvious things to do. Yeesh!

I couldn’t help but smile when I saw the glossy fashion insert in the Herald Sun last week. They are totally stealing my style. I am, like, so flattered. Just take a look at these other two examples:

It’s like they saw me on the tram and thought, “Yes. That celebrity-in-disguise is fashion forward. Must take note: big black hat, long black gloves, and must remember to clothe model in that fabulous shade of yellow.”

I love how the first fashion spread is called “From the shadows”. Ha.

I’ve been getting called Audrey Hepburn and Carmen Sandiego (I prefer the former), but I just feel that if I have to be covered up, there’s no point in being a frump. So in some small way I guess seeing these pictures does make me feel better about myself. I think I might pin the pages up on my walls.

I have been working on three top-secret projects lately, two of which involve books. So exciting! But unfortunately nothing I can tell you about… yet. Which probably explains why I have been so quiet. That and the fact that I rarely seem to take photos at the moment (it’s just a bit difficult with the whole sunshine thing). And no photos = no motivation to blog.

In other news, I am starting to notice a change in my energy levels (for the better) and have gotten tons of stuff done around the house. Including tackling the mending pile again, with gusto. And I’ve started making stuff for sale, which I haven’t done in ages. I’m hoping to fill up my etsy shop again, which would be nice (for me and for my credit card bill).
